OpenCards 2.2 released

It is with great please to announce that OpenCards 2.2 has been released just today. It comes along with some nice new features and improvements:

Japanese translation
(Simplified) chinese translation
Antialiased (=smooth) slide rendering on Windows and Linux
Better rendering of text-shapes
Lots of small stability improvements

OpenCards 2.1 released

It is with great please to announce that OpenCards 2.1 has been released just today. It comes along with some nice new features and improvements:

Added drag-and-drop support for ppt-files into OpenCards: It is now possible to drop PPT-files into categories or into the cardset table (which will cause OpenCards to add them to the currently selected category)
Improved integration of last-minute learning: Instead of hiding it in the context-menu, it is now accessible right from the main screen and integrates much better with OpenCards
Better visualization of new cards in schedule preview: New cards are shown in blue and already reviewed ones are shown in green
Open current slide during learning in PowerPoint by double-clicking it, which allows to access cards for editing
Various performance and usability improvements

New installer for Linux

We’re proud to announce that OpenCards is now also availabe as debian package. This will make the installation just a snap on platforms like Ubuntu or Debian. We especially like the way OpenCards can be setup and accessed under Ubuntu.

Here are a few first screenshots:

OpenCards requires openjdk-7-jre/jdk to run properly.

Feel welcome if you’ve questions or suggestions concerning our new linux build. It’s the first one we’ve ever made so it might contain some hidden glitches.

After quite a break (~2 years) we’ve finally decided to retire the old OpenCards extension for OpenOffice Impress and to create a new more user-friendly, speedy and elegant successor. As OpenOffice did not develop as we were hoping when starting the OpenCards project, we’ve now made a cut and rebuilt OpenCards to use PowerPoint ppt-files as flashcard sets.

So it is with great pleasure for us to announce OpenCards v2.0, which is a free flashcard learning software for PowerPoint ppt-files. The basic idea of OpenCards is to use PowerPoint presentations as flashcard sets. Thereby, slide-titles are considered as questions and the slide contents as their answers. Based on state-of-the-art memorization and scheduling algorithms OpenCards will help you to learn any set of flashcards. It ships with tons of cool features and runs on all major operating systems.

We’re very pleased to announce that OpenCards has raised from the dead. Instead of sticking to OpenOffice we’ve changed it to use PowerPoint files as flashcard sets.

A first (unstable) preview can be downloaded from our new project website at google-code.
